Dr. Leonard Bystrom - D.C.

Being part of a team gives you strength and power. Strength in that different approaches can be used to achieve a common goal. Power in the knowledge that most obstacles can be erased or lessened if everybody combines their talents toward that end.

I am a chiropractor and am well aware of the maladies that can affect a person in their life, sports, or career. I am also aware that I am unable to optimally help some of those who seek my help but when I combine my knowledge and expertise with other like-minded professionals, there are few who won't benefit, even a little

I graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 1989. Since that time, I have practiced in Ontario, Alberta and Sheffield (England). My youngest patient was 24 hours old and my eldest patient was 101 years young.

While in England I was part of the health care team for the Sheffield Wednesday Football (Soccer )Team, the Sheffield Steelers Hockey Team, the Sheffield Eagles Rugby Team, and the Sheffield Sharks Basketball Team. Prior to going to the UK and after returning to Alberta, I have been associated with the Canadian Professional Rodeo Sport Medicine Team and have been involved at professional rodeos helping the cowboys and cowgirls reach the pinnacle of their sport.

You can see that I believe in a team approach to helping people achieve all they can and maintain that which they have achieved. Here at Body Aware Wellness Centre, and at my clinic, Alta. Chiropractic Clinic (also at the Centre), we strive to do just that. And I believe we do!

Cindy Ives

Cindy has been working as a massage therapist for 15 years, recently relocated in Sylvan Lake from Ft McMurray.  Cindy is currently studying additional courses in structural integration.

Massage therapy involves the manipulation and rubbing of the soft tissues of the body, with particular focus on muscles and pressure points. Massage therapy may be used as part of physical therapy, or on its own to help relax areas where muscles are tight. In other cases, massage therapy may focus on pressure points of the body that are thought to give relief from pain or health problems in other parts of the body.

There are numerous forms of massage therapy. Most people find a method or two that they like and then stick with practitioners who use this form. Often people find a particular massage therapist who makes them feel comfortable and remain loyal customers of that massage therapist.

People use massage to promote relaxation and relieve pain. It can also relieve muscle tension and may improve blood flow, relieve pressure on nerves, and restore normal joint movement.

Most studies on massage show that massage reduces anxiety, improves blood flow, and decreases muscle tension.

Always tell your doctor if you are using an alternative therapy or if you are thinking about combining an alternative therapy with your conventional medical treatment. It may not be safe to forgo your conventional medical treatment and rely only on an alternative therapy.
